Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology



MISSION

Researchers at MAScIR’s Institute of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology work at the tiny level of a nanometer, where matter shows unusual physical, chemical, and biological properties.
 
The center’s mission is to design, invent and encourage research and development of nanotechnology applications, thus  supporting technology transfer to the industry in order to meet the market’s demand. 

CAPABILITIES

Materials and Nanomaterials
The Materials and Nanometrials team works on developing innovative research based on the fabrication of multifunctional magnetic & piezoelectric materials and nanomaterials such as hybrid, multilayer and ferrite-based materials.
Applied research in these areas is motivated by the potential to produce sensors, magnetic recording systems and materials for medical applications.
The team also works on new functional molecules such as organic materials, conductive polymers, fluorescent and phosphorescent molecules, and dendrimers.
The team has different capabilities including:
  • Design and synthesis of organic, inorganic, hybrid, polymeric materials and biomaterials
  • Expertise in synthesis of nanoparticles and nanomaterials
  • Expertise in physicochemical characterisation

Optics and Photonics
The Optics & Photonics team works on promoting innovation through market driven research and technology development for social and economic benefits. Researchers are now carrying research in biomedical photonics, and are targeting research in the strategic area of energy, and consumer electronics and defense.
The team's capabilities include:
  • Thin film fabrication technology: spin coating, sputtering, PVD, LB
  • Thin film characterization technology
Morphology: AFM, profilometry, optical microscopy, reflectometry, refractometry
Optical sensing: SPR and wave guide sensing;
Optical metrology (surface Plasmon and wave guide spectroscopy)

Composites and Nanocomposites
The Composites and Nano-composites team conducts applied research on fabrication, processing and prototyping of composites and nanocomposites for automotive and aerospace applications, food packaging and high-tech textile.
Among the capabilities of the team :
  • Development of composites and nanocomposite materials
  • Optimization of the forming processes for composites and nanocomposites
  • Evaluation of the performance of composites and nanocomposites
  • Development of catalytic process.
  • Fabrication of smart films and membrane for techniques of separation
 
Valorisation of the Moroccan Natural Resources
A cross-functional team works on the Valorization of the Moroccan Natural Resources by supporting the Moroccan industry to implement R&D programs focused on the valorization of industrial products.
The team aims at creating a strong relationship between R&D and the industry and brings high added value to the mining sector, food industry, biomass and biological sector.
